Ding Yi (1962 Shanghai) is one of the country's leading abstract painters and best known for his disciplined work creating cloth
canvases filled with crosses. Forgoing Mao, Pop, realism and the human figure, Ding has made a name for himself making crosses, or the
symbol for the number ten, on canvas after canvas for over 20 years. His works has changed over time, through color, by using different
patterns of crosses and with shimmering effects. But Ding yi is nonetheless devoted to exploring how to create patterns with a few simple
strokes but also an eye to how to almost religiously devote himself to bringing people a wider variety of cross like patterns.
Ding Yi lives and works in Shanghai.
